Underused Space to Deck Envy

This Ballarat backyard sat ready for a deck, but it was still a worksite. Grass had been cleared, leaving bare dirt, rubble and uneven ground hard against the brick house and sliding door. A timber sleeper wall and tall corrugated fence already framed the boundary - the bones of a usable outdoor space were there, but there was nowhere comfortable to step out and live. Without a proper deck, the rear door opened onto soft ground and a small concrete landing. For day-to-day use - entertaining, drying weather, or simply moving in and out with clean shoes - the yard needed a level, durable surface tied cleanly into the house.

SMP Buildcrete built a full hardwood deck across the prepared footprint. Long timber boards were laid with consistent spacing, finished with a rich oil that brings out the grain, and edged with matching fascia so the structure reads as one clean plane from the house out to the sleeper wall. The finished deck meets the sliding door as a practical outdoor room: warm underfoot, neat fastener lines, and a surface suited to Ballarat living. What began as cleared dirt is now a solid entertainment space that makes the backyard feel complete.
